The historical part of the town is full of authentically preserved buildings, cobbled streets, museums, galleries and restaurants. The Linhart Square is the centre of it all, lined with houses dating from the 16th century with picturesque Renaissance and Gothic façades. Discover the rich beekeeping tradition of Slovenia. Since its opening in 1959 the Museum of Apiculture presents the most interesting aspects of the heritage of Slovenian beekeeping; the native race of bees (the Carnoilan bee), the world-renowned beekeepers (like Anton Janša) and the largest collection of painted beehive panels from the 18th and 19th centuries; a folk art unique to Slovenia.
